2020 Virtual Events


No need to go anywhere! Join us from the comfort of your home on your computer or phone through the Zoom video conference service. The first time you join a Zoom meeting you will be guided through the steps of installing the Zoom app on your computer, tablet, or phone. A camera is not required, but we'd really like to see you! You can also call in if you prefer (audio only).

Please register in advance for individual events. Unless otherwise noted, the registration deadline will be midnight on the day before the scheduled event. If you have any questions, contact the HNC Office at virtual.events@hemophilia-nc.org or by phone at 919-319-0014.

  • Virtual Educational Session: Plasma Safety
    Tuesday, December 15, 2020 – 7:00pm-8:00pm

    While some people in the bleeding disorders community use recombinant factor products, others continue to utilize products manufactured using plasma. Understanding how plasma is collected and utilized is something that is important for anyone with a bleeding disorder to know.


  • HNC 2020 Teen Fun Day

    Hemophilia of North Carolina is excited to offer a program just for teenagers in the bleeding disorders community! Get together with you friends from across the state for a FUN and exciting event. We will be hearing from teens across the country about how and why they became involved with their local chapter and what makes them so excited about advocating for the bleeding disorders community.

    Let’s have some fun! Join Hemophilia of North Carolina (HNC) and our Presenting Walk sponsor, Grifols, for an interactive and family-friendly game night! Whether or not you have children, you’ll definitely have some laughs as we get together for a virtual scavenger hunt, Bingo, and trivia. Best of all, there will be prizes (including gift cards)!

    Entre Septiembre 15 y Octubre 15 se celebra el mes de la Hispanidad donde se reconoce las contribuciones de la comunidad latina. Hemofilia de Carolina del Norte (HNC) NC en colaboración con Takeda está organizando un programa para celebrar el mes de la hispanidad. Además de un programa educativo, se harán actividades divertidas para fortalecer nuestro conocimiento de la cultura latinoamericana. Ven preparado para pasar un rato agradable con tus amigos y familiares.


  • Special Meeting of the HNC Membership
         Revision of the HNC Bylaws
    Thursday, October 8, 2020 – 7:30pm-8:30pm

    The HNC Board of Directors has called for a Special Meeting of the membership. The agenda will consist of a single item: presentation, discussion, and vote on the adoption of a new set of Bylaws for HNC. All interested HNC members are encouraged to attend and take part in this important issue. All adult HNC members (age 18 and older) are eligible to vote.


  • Let’s Talk: Mental Health
         Documantary Screening
    Saturday, October 3, 2020 – 4:00pm-5:30pm

    Join Hemophilia of North Carolina (HNC) and Hemophilia of South Carolina (HSC) for a virtual screening of the documentary film, Let’s Talk. During this 40-minulte film, you will hear from five members of the bleeding disorders community about their experiences and struggles with mental health. Produced in partnership with Believe Limited and Mental Health Matters Too, this film is intended to spark conversation, increase awareness, and decrease stigma of mental health issues.


  • HNC Family Retreat
    Friday, September 11, 2020 – Sunday, September 20

    HNC's popular Family Retreat is going virtual this fall! Although we are not going to be able to get together in person, we are planning a fun event for the entire family. All educational programs are geared towards families who have children diagnosed with a bleeding disorder.


  • VWD Education Day
    Saturday, August 29, 2020 – 10:00am-3:30pm

    Join Hemophilia of North Carolina for a day just for community members with von Willebrand disease! Learn about the genetics of VWD, VWD through life’s stages, and what treatment options there are for people with VWD. There will also be a fun, interactive activity that you don’t want to miss.

  • HNC/HSC 2020 Virtual Teen Retreat
    Friday, August 7, 2020 – Saturday, August 8

    Hemophilia of North Carolina (HNC) and Hemophilia of South Carolina (HSC) are pleased to once again offer the Teen Retreat for ALL teens in the bleeding disorders community – this year to be held virtually! Though this year’s event will look a little different than past years, anyone ages 13-18 who has a bleeding disorder, has a brother or sister with a bleeding disorder, or has a parent with a bleeding disorder is invited to attend! Plus, like other years, you may “bring” a friend (they can login separately)!

    Únase a Hemophilia of North Carolina (HNC), en la comodidad de su casa para un evento de Unión Latina sobre cuidado dental, presentada por el Educador Clínico Bilingüe de Takeda, Patricia Espinosa-Thomson. El cuidado de los dientes desempeña un papel fundamental en el mantenimiento de la salud oral y es particularmente importante para personas con un trastorno sanguíneo. En este programa, aprenderás cόmo cuidarte los dientes, prevenir las caries y otras complicaciones, y prepararte para las visitas al dentista.

    Sessions for this event will include disease-specific information about von Willebrand disease (VWD), hemophilia, and other rare bleeding disorders (including rare factor deficiencies and platelet disorders), treatment as a woman with a bleeding disorder, a fun art therapy session, and time to connect with other women during the women’s rap session.


  • Fitness Fun with Dr. Mike
         plus: the Importance of Plasma Amid the COVID Crisis
    Thursday, June 25, 2020 – 7:00pm-8:00pm

    Join us for a special webinar to get you excited for the Charlotte Festival & Walk! The webinar will kick off with a short introduction from GRIFOLS, the Charlotte Festival & Walk Presenting Sponsor, about how plasma is being used in the fight against COVID-19. Then, make sure you have your comfy clothes on because it’ll be time to have some Fitness Fun with Dr. Mike! We’ll get ready for the virtual Charlotte Walk together by doing some strengthening exercises and stretches.

    We are all staying home in this unprecedented time of social distancing amid COVID-19. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t connect! Hemophilia of North Carolina (HNC) invites you to the 2020 Adult Retreat, to be held in the comfort of your home. Though we can’t get together in the mountains as originally planned, we can still meet virtually for connection, support, and education.

    Join us for a special viewing of the sixth episode of Challenge Accepted: Laugh! Created by Genentech, this Youtube series was inspired by and made especially for the bleeding disorders community. Guest starring Emmy winner and hemophilia advocate Alex Borstein.

    Are you prepared to advocate virtually with Hemophilia of North Carolina (HNC) on June 16 during this year’s Virtual Legislative Day? Whether you are already planning to participate, are on the fence, or just want to know what it’s all about, join us on May 13 for a special webinar, The Importance of Connecting with Public Officials.

    HNC invites moms, women with a bleeding disorder, and caregivers to join us for a Women’s Coffee Chat. Connect with the community through shared stories and conversation.


  • HNC Blood Brotherhood
    Sunday, May 3, 2020 – 1:00pm-2:30pm

    Attention all adult men with a bleeding disorder! Get your body moving with a virtual Tai Chi session led by Rick Starks – also known as the Tai Chi Guy – and then enjoy a "virtual" lunch and time to chat and connect with other guys with a bleeding disorder from across North Carolina. HNC will be able to reimburse $12 per person for lunch. Once you register for the event, HNC will send you instructions on how to register for the Zoom meeting and details about the lunch reimbursement. The Hemophilia Federation is our Program Partner on this event.


  • World Hemophilia Day Pizza Party
    Friday, April 17, 2020 – 6:30pm

    Join Hemophilia of North Carolina (HNC) and Hemophilia of South Carolina (HSC) for a Virtual Pizza Party to celebrate World Hemophilia Day! Help us to "Get+involved" virtually by wearing red, joining us for pizza, and celebrating our community. Order pizza, take a picture of your receipt, and HNC & HSC will reimburse you for the cost of pizza. More details on how to be reimbursed will be provided when you register.


  • Kids Virtual Trivia
    Saturday, April 4, 2020 – 11:00am-noon

    Join HNC for a fun game of Jeopardy. We invite kids and their parents to join us for a fun, Zoom Jeopardy game. When you register, you will be provided with instructions on connecting with us through the Zoom app. Although we can't get together in person, we can still get together and have a great time through Zoom.


  • Teen Talk
    Friday, April 3, 2020 – 6:00pm-7:00pm

    Hemophilia of North Carolina (HNC) and Hemophilia of South Carolina (HSC) are partnering to offer a virtual Teen Talk on Friday, April 3 from 6pm-7pm. This is an opportunity for teens in the community (ages 13-18) to get together virtually through Zoom and connect with one another. This will be a laid back meet-up without an agenda. HNC and HSC recognize the challenges of being a teen in such a unique time and we wanted to offer this way of connectivity for teens in the community. This will be for teens only.

    Join us for our first virtual event, the HNC Coffee Chat this Saturday at 11:00am. Say "hello", let us know how you are doing, and hear from us about how HNC can support you during the COVID-19 outbreak. Feel free to jump on/off as your schedule allows.
